Any cool ideas for a two-year old's birthday party during the fall?
Last year, we had chili, popcorn and decorated pumpkins one Saturday morning.
This year, Susannah is kinda into playing dress up (usually with my shoes/jewelry/etc) and although I don't buy into the Halloween spookiness, feel like a costume party may be the ticket.
Initially, Galon and I wanted to do something "experiencial" with her, like visit the DC Zoo or a Richmond botanical center, but I think she may be a little young to understand that specialness and/or be able to anticipate it fully.
Her birthday (Oct. 28) is around Halloween, so I was considering a costume party on a Friday evening. The kiddos could make mini pizzas while the adults get delivery- pumpkins as decoration and face ...paint/masks as goodie bag fodder. All you mommies out there weigh in please!
Other ideas include doing face painting as an activity and having pumpkin cupcakes for desert.
Another question- if I invite some of her friends from daycare, do I expect both parents/siblings to come too? We're having the event at our house so I need to be aware of a head count early on. Other folks on the list include some adults who have been involved in her life and some friends from church (older kids) with their parents.

Maggie,
At age 2, I would expect the parents and sibling to come too because they probably have not done the drop off for a party thing yet. You might have a bunch. We just went with 1 friend and 1 set of parents for Elizabeth's 3rd birthday. We really did not have anyone else to invite since she is not in daycare, has not had friends her age at church, and had not started preschool yet. We just had the 3 of us for her second birthday. There was another couple here because they just happened to be passing through and needed a place to stay. Next year at age 4 will probably be her first birthday party with friends invited now that she is in preschool.

Hey Maggie,
If I got an invite for a 2 yr. olds b-day party & in the evening, I would think it was a bring the family party. If you wanted it smaller, you could always state that it's for the 2 yr. old buddies & a parent. All of your ideas sound great -- keep it simple. Good food, good company & some toys around & everyone will be happy. Personally, I'd be wary of face paint b/c the babes might smear it all over your house, but maybe they'll be outside if it's a lovely evening? Enjoy & congrats on her 2nd b-day!!
