See how good his season has been already? (for the hunter, that is. Not the deer.)
I've actually had mixed feelings about hunting all along and it was one of the most tender arguments Galon and I had as acquaintances way back when (12 years ago?)
Since then, I've realized that when done in a respectful, skilled manner, hunting is simply another method of gathering food. We hardly ever purchase meat and when we do it's a white meat like fish, chicken or pork.
So whether you're for Bambi or against, I'm proud that my husband can provide in this way and has the ability to sneak up on these particularly sneaky animals.

This one will probably become his Christmas present. On the wall. Any wall. Oh boy!

And this one was the first of the season, after he'd passed on several smaller ones.
Add in a little doe taken in Hanover County and we have a filling up freezer and lots of fodder for dinner. Our favorite recipes include bacon and lots of Dales Seasoning on the grill, but we also like a good chili or spaghetti with ground venison.
And we're still eating the elk from October!
